The session began with the introduction of the faculty members of CETI.
Opening the session Dr. Manoj Jain, a co-founder of CETI spoke about the visit to the slums of Indian cities and felt the need for progress and growth. From his experience he realised that TB could be eradicated from India in a similar fashion as Polio was. He has studied how other countries managed to significantly reduce the cases of TB in their population. With this reference he talked about the intentions of forming this organisation (CETI) and firmly believes that the same can be achieved in India.
Dr. Manoj also highlighted to the audience about how CETI provided a systematic approach to realise this dream of TB free India. He stressed upon the need of working together towards a common goal and learn about the major processes to move towards this goal. Finally, the speaker emphasised that this common goal can be achieved only if all the DTOs join hands together with the knowledge base that they hold and CETI shall promote it.
The session then shifted its focus on the second faculty member who has served in the Indian navy and now dedicates his life in the service of nation through this organisation. He subtly lets the audience know that CETI does not aim at teaching but facilitate a two-way knowledge sharing throughout the entire course. He also elaborated the role of Quality Improvement Counsellors (QICs) who are a single point of contact for DTOs and assist them throughout the course.
Moving ahead the session began with the first lecture on Quality Improvement (QI – 1) which involved topics like what is quality, how it relates to healthcare, indicators of quality and its utilisation in NTEP, impact and outcome measures, quality improvement, value- based healthcare, perspective of stakeholders in quality in TB, quality assurance vs. quality improvement. This was complimented with a glimpse of the Quality Improvement learning sheet.
This was then followed by the first lecture on Team building (TE – 1) which involved introduction to team, role and significance of a team and how a team leader is often considered as a dictator while he/she should rather be a facilitator who can bring out the best in every team member. During the lecture a line was drawn between a team and a group so as to understand the difference between those. The faculty beautifully used the examples from Indian movies to introduce the functioning of team and need of delivery tools so that team can perform well. This helped the DTOs to understand how CETI provides them with these tools during the course journey. These involve leadership, management, team building, quality improvement and data analysis tools.
Finally, the session concluded by congratulating the DTOs for successfully expanding the team with CETI, its faculty members & staff, USAID and Union as a part of their team.
